1) Stay away from the water

Let’s dive into our first Ark Survival Evolved tip (pun intended!). One thing you’ll learn quickly in Ark Survival Evolved is that water can be pretty dangerous, especially for beginners. Sure, it might look inviting and refreshing, but you’ll want to stay away from it as much as possible. Some nasty critters are lurking beneath the surface – I’m talking about piranhas, megalodons, and even the occasional leedsichthys. Swimming drains your stamina, and running out of stamina in deep water can lead to a quick and watery grave. So, unless you’re a seasoned player with solid gear and a trusty aquatic mount, stick to the shallows and the shorelines for your water needs. Save the deep-sea exploration for later, when you’re better equipped to handle the dangerous creatures that await.

2) Build a bed or two

Now, let’s talk about one of the most essential items in Ark – beds! You might wonder why a bed is so important in a game full of dinosaurs and survival challenges. Beds serve as respawn points, meaning if you meet an untimely demise (and trust me, it happens), you’ll respawn at your bed instead of a random location. This is a total game-changer since it saves you the hassle of returning to your base or your precious loot. So, craft yourself a bed (or, better yet, a couple) as soon as possible. The Simple Bed is the first one you’ll be able to make, requiring some thatch, wood, fiber, and hide. Scatter a few beds around your base and other key locations to give yourself plenty of respawn options. Just remember that beds have a cooldown, so having multiple beds is a smart move to avoid being stranded when you need to respawn. Trust me, having a safe place to return to after a rough encounter can make all the difference.

3) Spawn in the right spot

Choosing the right place to spawn when you first enter the world of Ark Survival Evolved is crucial for your early survival. Some areas are way more dangerous than others, and you definitely want to avoid starting your journey in a place crawling with aggressive creatures or harsh environmental conditions. So, I advise you to pick one of the easier spawn zones, usually labeled as “Easy” or “South,” depending on the map you’re playing. These beginner-friendly zones have more resources, fewer dangerous predators, and more forgiving weather conditions. It’s the perfect place to learn the ropes, gather resources, and get a feel for the game without constantly fearing for your life. Once you’ve gained experience and acquired better gear, you can venture into more challenging map areas. Remember, even in these “easy” zones, you still need to stay on your toes – Ark is, after all, a game of survival evolved!

4) Craft a Pickaxe

A trusty pickaxe is one of the first tools you’ll want to craft in Ark Survival Evolved. It’s essential for gathering resources like stone, flint, metal, and even thatch. With a pickaxe in hand, you can start building your base, crafting more advanced tools, and making your way up the tech tree. And trust me, having the right tools makes all the difference in your Ark Survival Evolved experience. To craft a Stone Pick, you’ll need some thatch, wood, and stone – all of which are easy to collect in the early game by punching trees for some thatch and wood (yeah, it hurts, but it’s necessary) and picking up a few stones from the ground. Once you’ve got the necessary materials, craft your pickaxe in the crafting menu. As you progress, you’ll be able to unlock and craft a Metal Pick, which is more efficient and durable than its stone counterpart. But for now, a simple Stone Pick will do just fine to get you started on your Ark Survival Evolved journey. Remember, the key to survival is being resourceful; a pickaxe is the perfect tool to help you do that!

5) Stay near the beach

When you’re starting out in Ark Survival Evolved, it’s wise to stay close to the beach. I mentioned earlier that water can be dangerous. Still, the shoreline is a great place to begin your adventure in this strange world. Beaches are usually rich in resources like wood, thatch, stone, and fiber – all the basics you’ll need to craft your first tools and build your base. Plus, the creatures near the beach are generally less dangerous than those lurking in the dense forests or mountains. By staying close to the beach, you’ll be able to gather resources more safely and efficiently, while avoiding some of the more aggressive creatures that call the island home. Additionally, staying near the coast makes navigating and finding your way around the map easier. As you gain experience and level up, you’ll be better prepared to venture further inland and face the tougher challenges that await. But for now, sticking close to the beach is your best bet for a successful start in Ark Survival Evolved!

6) Avoid glowing dinos at all costs

As you explore the world of Ark Survival Evolved, you might come across dinosaurs with an eerie glow. These dangerous creatures are known as “Alpha” predators and are far stronger, faster, and deadlier than their non-glowing counterparts. I advise you, especially if you’re a beginner, to avoid these glowing dinos like the plague! Alpha predators can easily take down even the most well-equipped and experienced players, so if you’re just starting out, you will only stand a chance against them. If you spot an Alpha in the wild, it’s best to keep your distance and give them a wide berth. They might be tempting targets due to their rare loot drops, but it’s not worth the risk. As you progress through the game and become more powerful, you might eventually be able to take on an Alpha predator. Still, it’s best to focus on leveling up, gathering valuable resources, and building up your arsenal before you even think about taking on these glowing nightmares. Survival is the game’s name; sometimes, that means knowing when to pick your battles!

7) Tame a Dodo

Now, let’s talk about taming! One of the most iconic aspects of Ark Survival Evolved is the ability to tame animals and befriend the creatures that inhabit the world. While there are plenty of advanced taming techniques and strategies for bigger, stronger creatures, I will give you a simple tip that can make a big difference early on: tame a Dodo. Dodos are small, flightless birds that you’ll find wandering around the beach and other beginner-friendly areas in Ark Survival Evolved. They’re super easy to tame and useful for a few reasons. First, they’re a great source of eggs, which can be used for crafting recipes, taming other dangerous creatures, or even as a quick snack. Second, they’re good for producing fertilizer when paired with a compost bin, which is essential for growing crops. To tame a Dodo, you only need to knock it unconscious (a few punches or a slingshot will do the trick) and then feed it some berries. Mejoberries are the most effective, but any berries will work. Just keep an eye on the Dodo’s unconsciousness meter and feed it more berries as needed until the taming process is complete. Taming a Dodo is a great introduction to Ark’s taming mechanics and will give you a helpful companion to assist with your early-game resource gathering. Plus, let’s be honest, having a little army of Dodos following you around is just plain fun!

8) Build a modest base

Once you’ve got a few basic tools and resources, it’s time to start thinking about building a base in Ark Survival Evolved. A good base is essential for survival – it offers protection from the elements, a safe place to store your belongings, and a spot to respawn when things go south. In the game’s early stages, it’s best to keep your base modest and functional. You don’t need a massive fortress (yet) – just a simple shelter made of thatch or wood will do the trick. Focus on building a small, enclosed space with walls, a door, and a roof to protect you from the elements and any wandering creatures. Inside your base, you’ll want to place a bed (or a few, as we mentioned earlier) and some storage containers to hold your resources and gear. You can also set up crafting stations like a Mortar and Pestle, a Refining Forge, and a Smithy as you unlock them. As you progress in Ark Survival Evolved, you’ll be able to expand and upgrade your base, but keeping it simple and functional is the way to go for now. Remember, being prepared, adaptable, and resourceful is key to surviving in Ark. Your base will serve as your home away from home, your fortress, and your lifeline in this wild and dangerous world. So, take the time to build and maintain a solid base; it’ll pay off in the long run!

9) Watch out for pickpockets

Here’s a tip that might save you some serious frustration in Ark Survival Evolved: keep an eye out for pickpocketing creatures! Some sneaky little critters in Ark are notorious for stealing your hard-earned items right out of your inventory. The most infamous of these thieves is the Pegomastax, a small, fast dinosaur with a knack for swiping your stuff and running off. These little bandits can be quite annoying, especially when they manage to steal something valuable like your weapons, tools, or rare resources such as rare flowers. To avoid falling victim to their sticky fingers, always be aware of your surroundings and keep an eye out for any suspicious-looking creatures lurking nearby. If you do encounter a Pegomastax, it’s a good idea to have some Mejoberry stacks in your inventory’s last slot, as they prefer to steal those over other items. This can save you from losing more valuable items and even taming the creature if you let it steal the berries. Alternatively, you can try to chase them down and recover your stolen goods, but be prepared for a fast-paced pursuit. In the end, the key to surviving in Ark is staying alert and adapting to the challenges the world throws at you, including the occasional pickpocketing dino. So, be cautious, keep an eye on your inventory, and always be ready to protect your valuable resources!

10) Begin unlocking Engrams

As you level up in Ark Survival Evolved, you’ll gain Engram Points that you can spend to unlock various blueprints, known as Engrams. These Engrams allow you to craft new tools, weapons, structures, and even saddles for your tamed creatures. Unlocking Engrams is crucial to your progress in the game, so make sure you start spending those Engram Points as soon as you can. Initially, focus on unlocking essential items like the Stone Pick, Campfire, and Spear. As you progress, you’ll want to unlock more advanced tools, weapons, and structures to help you survive and thrive in the world of Ark. Keep in mind that you won’t have enough points to unlock everything, so prioritize unlocking the Engrams that best fit your playstyle and the challenges you’re facing.

It’s also worth noting that you can team up with other players to share the burden of unlocking Engrams in Ark Survival Evolved. In a tribe, each member can focus on unlocking specific Engrams, allowing the group to have access to a wider range of items and abilities. This can be a huge advantage when it comes to surviving and conquering Ark’s challenges. So, remember to spend your Engram Points and unlock new blueprints as you level up. The more Engrams you have at your disposal, the better equipped you’ll be to face and survive the countless challenges and dangers that await you in Ark!

As you venture into the strange world of Ark Survival Evolved, it’s important to stay alive by being resourceful, gathering as many resources as possible, and making the most of the survival tips provided above. These Ark tips will help you navigate the early game and face the dangerous creatures that inhabit the Ark world, ensuring your survival and success. With the right tools, like metal tools for gathering wood, taming creatures like Dodos as your best friends, and the tips for setting up a spawn point or a sleeping bag as your respawn point, you’ll be better prepared to face whatever challenges come your way in this fantastic survival game.
