List of Plants Vs Zombies Plants

In the history of Plants Vs Zombie games there has been a total of 173 plants. Some are in the first game and other spin-off games such as Battlez and garden warfare but the majority of the plants come from Plants Vs Zombies 2. In the OG Plants Vs Zombies game, there are a total of 40 playable plants in-game with 8 upgrades and 1 plant that is exclusive to wall nut bowling. All these plants came out with the game launch so we don’t need to tell you which plant came when.

Peashooter

  • Type: Offensive – Long Ranged
  • Damage: Normal
  • Cost: 100 Sun
  • Recharge: Fast

Peashooter is the very first plant you get. Each pea he shoots is 20 damage so when you get into the higher levels he becomes more of a hassle than the actual help. Later levels and stronger plants will phase him out.

Sunflower

  • Type: Sun producing
  • Sun Production: Normal
  • Cost: 50 Sun
  • Recharge: Fast

This guy is a must for pretty much any level. Sunflowers produce sun which in term gets you more plants.

Cherry Bomb

  • Type: Offensive – Instant Kill
  • Damage: Instant
  • Cost: 150 Sun
  • Recharge: Very Slow

The cherry bomb is the first instant kill plant you get and it’s a good one. It deals 1800 damage to all zombies in a 3×3 area.

Wall Nut

  • Type: Defensive
  • Toughness: High
  • Cost: 50 sun
  • Recharge: Slow

Wall-nuts are the first defensive plant you get in the game. Wall-nuts can take 40 bites before he gets completely eaten.

Potato mine

  • Type: Offensive – Instant Kill
  • Damage: Kills most zombies instantly
  • Cost: 25 sun
  • Recharge: Slow

Potato mine like its name is a mine and must be charged up before it is ready to explode. You will need about 14 seconds for it to arm itself.

Snow Pea

  • Type: Offensive – Long Range
  • Damage: Normal, slows zombies
  • Cost: 175 sun
  • Recharge: Fast

Snow pea is similar to Peashooters but they slow down the zombie’s movement after it gets hit.

Chomper

  • Type: Offensive – Instant Kill
  • Damage: Instantly kill one zombie
  • Cost: 150 sun
  • Recharge: Fast

Think of Chomper as a reuseable Potato mine. Chompers don’t need to be recharged until after it eats a zombie then it will take 42 seconds to finish its meal.

Repeater

  • Type: Offensive – Long Range
  • Damage: Normal (for each pea)
  • Cost: 200 sun
  • Recharge: Fast

The Repeater is like the peashooter but instead of one pea, it shoots 2 at a time for double the damage.

Puff-Shroom

  • Type: Offensive – Short Range
  • Damage: Normal
  • Cost: 0 sun
  • Recharge: Fast
  • Sleeps during the day

Puff-Shroom is the first-night plant you get. He doesn’t cost anything so you can plant as many as you want as long as you have space.

Sun-Shroom

  • Type: Sun producing
  • Sun Production: Low, then normal
  • Cost: 25 sun
  • Recharge: Fast
  • Sleeps during the day

Sun-shroom is pretty much a night time varient of the sunflower. When you first plant him he will only give out 15 sun at a time but over time he will produce the same amount of sun as a Sunflower.

Fume Shroom

  • Type: Offensive – Short Range
  • Cost: 75 sun
  • Recharge: Fast
  • Sleeps during the day

Fume shroom fires fumes that passes through shields such as ladders and screen doors.

Grave Buster

  • Type: Environment modifier
  • Effect: Destorys graves, single use.
  • Cost: 75 sun
  • Recharge: Fast

Grave buster is unique as it can only be used at nighttime and on graves to get rid of them.

Hypno-Shroom

  • Type: Offensive – Instant kill
  • Cost: 75 sun
  • Recharge: Slow
  • Sleeps during the day

When Hypno-shroom is eaten, that zombie will turn against it’s own kind and start eating other zombies until it dies or walks off screen.

Scaredy-Shroom

  • Type: Offensive – Long Range
  • Damage: Normal
  • Cost: 25 sun
  • Recharge: Fast
  • Sleeps during the day

Scaredy-shroom is pretty much like a normal peashooter except when a zombie gets to close then it will duck down and stop shooting.

Ice-Shroom

  • Type: Instant effect
  • Damage: Very light, freezes zombies
  • Cost: 75 sun
  • Recharge: Very slow
  • Sleeps during the day

Ice-shroom doesn’t damage zombies but instead freeze zombies for a short time.

Doom-Shroom

  • Type: Offensive – Instant kill
  • Damage: Instantly kill most zombies
  • Cost: 125 sun
  • Recharge: Very slow
  • Sleeps during the day

Doom shroom is a bigger cherry bomb. He has a larger area of the explosion but he does create a crater that plants cant be planted on for a bit.

Lily Pad

  • Type: Environment modifier
  • Cost: 25 sun
  • Recharge: Fast
  • Must be planted in water

Lily pad is the first aquatic plant you receive. Place lily pads on the water to plant any non aquatic plants on top.

Squash

  • Type: Offensive – Instant kill
  • Damage: Instantly kill most zombies
  • Cost: 50 sun
  • Recharge: Slow

Squash is an instant-kill plant. Squash is ready to kill zombies right as he planted by jumping on their heads.

Threepeater

  • Type: Offensive – Long Range
  • Damage: Normal (each pea)
  • Cost: 325 sun
  • Recharge: Fast

Threepeater is like an expensive peashooter but it can shoot peas across 3 lanes.

Tangle Kelp

  • Type: Offensive – Instant kill
  • Damage: Instantly kill zombies
  • Cost: 25 sun
  • Recharge: Slow
  • Must be planted in water

Tangle Kelp is the squash of the pool. When zombies get close to him he will pull the zombie under the water.

Jalapeno

  • Type: Offensive – Instant kill
  • Damage: Instantly kill zombies
  • Cost: 125 sun
  • Recharge: Very slow

Jalapeno is a cherry bomb that just kills the whole lane instead.

Spikeweed

  • Type: Offensive – Area of effect
  • Damage: 5 damage over time/Instant kill to vehicles
  • Cost: 100 sun
  • Recharge: Fast

Spikeweed will hurt zombies that step on him and instantly kill a zomboni or catapult zombie.

Torchwood

  • Type: Offensive – Boost
  • Damage: None on his own but doubles the damage of peas
  • Cost: 175 sun
  • Recharge: Fast

Torchwood is a must-have in the late game as he will light peas passing him increasing the damage output.

Tall-Nut

  • Type: Defensive
  • Toughness: High
  • Cost: 125 sun
  • Recharge: Slow
  • Special: Cannot be vaulted or jumped over

Tall nut is a taller and sturdier version of the Wall-nut. He cant be jumped over by any zombies.

Sea-Shroom

  • Type: Offensive – Short Range
  • Damage: Normal
  • Cost: 0 sun
  • Recharge: Slow
  • Sleeps during the day

Sea-shroom is just a water version of the Puff-shroom.

Plantern

  • Type: Environment modifier
  • Toughness: Normal
  • Cost: 25 sun
  • Recharge: Slow

Plantern is a light that is used to clear away fog in levels.

Cactus

  • Type: Offensive – Long Range
  • Damage: Normal
  • Cost: 125 sun
  • Recharge: Fast

Cactus shoots spikes that damage zombies and also pass through multiple zombies. Cactus also serves as a way to destroy balloon zombies.

Blover

  • Type: Environment modifier
  • Cost: 125 sun
  • Recharge: Fast

When Blover is planted, he will spin and blow away the fog for a period of time and also get rid of any balloon zombies.

Split Pea

  • Type: Offensive – Long Range
  • Damage: Normal
  • Cost: 125 sun
  • Recharge: Fast

Split pea serves as a counter to the digger zombies as it can shoot behind him.

Starfruit

  • Type: Offensive – Long Range
  • Damage: Normal
  • Cost: 125 sun
  • Recharge: Fast

Starfruit shoots start in five directions.

Pumpkin

  • Type: Defensive
  • Toughness: High
  • Cost: 125 sun
  • Recharge: Slow

Pumpkin’s main goal is to put an extra layer on plants in terms of health.

Magnet-Shroom

  • Type: Defensive
  • Toughness: High
  • Cost: 100 sun
  • Recharge: Fast
  • Sleeps during the day

Magnet-shroom removes helmets and other metal objects from zombies.

Cabbage-pult

  • Type: Offensive – Long Range
  • Damage: Normal
  • Cost: 100 sun
  • Recharge: Fast

Cabbage-pult is the first catapult plant introduced. Catapult plants are needed on the slanted roof levels.

Flower Pot

  • Type: Environment modifier
  • Cost: 25 sun
  • Recharge: Fast

Flower pot is pretty much just the Lily pad of the roof.

Kernal-Pult

  • Type: Offensive – Long Range
  • Damage: Light (kernel), normal (butter)
  • Cost: 100 sun
  • Recharge: Fast

Kernal-pult launches kernels which is the same damage as cabbage but also have a 25% chance of throwing a butter which will do more damage and stun the zombies for 5 seconds.

Coffee Bean

  • Type: Environment modifier
  • Cost: 75 sun
  • Recharge: Fast

Coffee bean is a bean that wakes up mushrooms during daytime levels.

Garlic

  • Type: Defensive
  • Toughness: High
  • Cost: 50 sun
  • Recharge: Fast

When a zombie bites Garlic it will make a disgusted look and then go to another lane above or below.

Umbrella Leaf

  • Type: Defensive
  • Toughness: Normal
  • Cost: 50 sun
  • Recharge: Fast

Umbrella leaf has the ability to protect plants in a 3×3 area from bungee zombies and catapult zombies.

Marigold

  • Type: Money-producing
  • Cost: 50 sun
  • Recharge: Slow

Every 24 seconds Marigold will produce gold or silver coin. While this is useless in defending your lawn it can be used in various money farming guides.

Melon-Pult

  • Type: Offensive – Long Range
  • Damage: Heavy
  • Cost: 300 sun
  • Recharge: Fast

While being the most expensive plant on the list it packs the biggest punch of them all.
